My name is Amy Dowell, but professionally have become known as 'the Painted Lady'. I get a lot of questions/assumptions about where this name derived from, so here is the story:
When I first started getting a lot of my tattoos, my parents were less than thrilled, and my dad asked, 'so what, are you just gonna keep getting these and be the painted lady and travel with the circus?!' and I was like, dad, you are a genius, and the name has ever since been my calling card. thanks Dad <3.
Prior to beginning my career in tattooing, i was a professional freelance artist, specializing in classical drawing and painting. I graduated from the University of Wyoming with my Bachelor's degree in art, and an expansive tattoo collection to boot. So you can say art and tattoos have been a big part of my life for quite some time.
In conjunction with tattooing, I still do work, and exhibit, as a freelance fine artst whenever I have the opportunity, and work with brands on commercial projects from time to time.
I have 10+ years experience as a professional tattooer, and 8 of those as a studio owner. I love making intricate works of art, anything to do with nature, plants, animals, landscapes. I love portraits, and mostly black work, with maybe, just maybe a pop of color here or there. I like themes or stories i get to research and incorporate lots of symbolism in. I like ideas that are maybe a little bizarre, but something I can bring to life and make beautiful. I love unique placements and designing pieces with clients that are tailored to them and their body. I love working on pieces that can help a client heal from something, whether it's a loss of a loved one, cancer, or bringing them new self-esteem.
When i'm not tattooing, my life is my family, and my time with them is the most precious thing i have.
I absolutely love what i do and the people I get to work with. I want everyone that walks through the door, to end up with a tattoo that far surpasses their expectations, but also have more fun at their session than they thought possible. I'm there to be your artist, your advocate, your support system and who knows, maybe even your new favorite sit down comedian.
I can't wait to meet you and create a beautiful work of art, and memories to last a lifetime.
